Julie, Mt Kilimanjaro and LACP

October 8, 2010
Ever dreamed of climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania?  Well, our volunteers Jacinta and Kristen’s UK VSO friend Julie Daltrey (who volunteered together in Zambia) and her husband Stuart are heading there in a few days time to take on the challenge.

Julie visited us in Livingstone last year before she headed back to Wales and we took the opportunity to show her around the place, take her to a meeting with our Community Child Labour Committee Members and then show her the reality on the ground at Ngwenya Quarry where many children in our Combating Child Labour programme were working crushing stones.  So moved was Julie by the sight of this quarry and all it contained and represented, that when she decided to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, the Livingstone Anglican Children’s Project was her charity of choice for fundraising.

So please, take a look at Julie’s blog site – she has a few entries there already, but she will be updating it on their progress up the mountain each day and sending photos to the blog via her mobile.  Isn’t technology amazing? Even climbing Africa’s highest mountain you can blog!

If you would like to support Julie with your good wishes then you can leave a comment on her blog site.  If you would like to sponsor Julie’s trek in support of the Livingstone Anglican Children’s Project, then please get in touch with us and we can send you the details.

We’d like to thank Julie enormously for her kindness, compassion and motivation to make a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged children of Livingstone.

We wish her good luck, safe travels and loads of fun!
